The best review I can leave for anyone is "I'd use them again, and would recommend them to others," and we do that here for Modern Collision. We love our '98 Volvo wagon and didn't want to replace it when it needed a head gasket and other wear-related / maintenance work, the combined cost of which would easily exceed the car's current market value. We called around and got prices from those who said they could do it, including Daisy Wagon in Seattle, and learned the job was fairly complicated, required special tools, etc. Some places didn't want the job - too complicated on that particular Volvo motor, they said. We didn't initially consider a "collision"-oriented place for specialty mechanical work on an older foreign car, but Lisa knew Micah so I gave him call in case he could refer us to someone in the area capable of doing the job at a fair price. I was surprised to learn Modern Collision could do the work and had done so in the past on similar Volvos - even their estimate was fair, AND their bid included other, not necessarily then-essential work they believed should be undertaken when everything was apart for the head gasket replacement (eg water pump, timing belt, pulleys, etc.). Other places, if they even bother to mention the "non-essential" work to the customer, do so after giving the lower "head gasket, only" price, then add on the rest if you ask about it. For non-motorhead people (and even some quasi-motorheads), you want your mechanic to guide and inform you, not just do what you know to ask of them, and Modern Collision does that without being asked. Micah has an old Volvo and he knows the marque's idiosyncrasies. Long story a bit longer, we went forward with the job. Modern Collision's online approval/progress report process is exemplary - everything to be done is estimated and approved by the customer in advance - no chance for "errors." As they discovered minor things along the way, they sent pictures of the parts and described the problems. As an old(ish) motorhead myself, I understood what they were saying and they were accurate on all points - no BS. Those issues were estimated/approved. I wouldn't change any part of the experience. It was expensive, but that wasn't due to anything Modern Collision did, or did not, do. And, the best part, our beloved Volvo wagon is back and running like new. I guess what I would suggest is that "Modern Collision Rebuild & Service" change its name to something that better conveys the scope of its expertise, something like "Modern Collision & Mechanical," though the "Service," also, was excellent. Our thanks to Micah and the crew at Modern Collision.
